The Handoff

Team submitRemote or in person

Each team maps what it needs from the team beside it.

Every team writes down the one thing they need from each other team, and the one thing they think that team needs from them. Then the two lists are put next to each other. The mismatches are the most useful output any icebreaker in this bank produces.

Run this when…

The situations it was built for. If none of these is the room you have, it is probably the wrong activity.

  • A cross-functional process review
  • Two teams whose work meets in the middle
  • An operating-model workshop

How it runs

A prompt, one answer per team, then the room votes or the host scores.

  1. 1You start a session and put the code on the big screen.
  2. 2Everyone joins on their phone — no app, no sign-up, just the code.
  3. 3You drive the pace from the host screen; the room answers as they go.
  4. 4Ending the session builds the report, with every answer in it.

Running it well

Only the host sees these. Participants never do.

  • Insist on one thing, not a list. A list lets a team avoid choosing, and the choosing is the value.
  • Capture the mismatches before the room leaves. They are next quarter's process changes.
