Cricket Auction League
Remote or in person
Build the ultimate XI before the money runs out.
Teams bid live against each other to assemble a cricket squad inside a fixed budget. Every lot forces a trade-off between the player they want and the budget they need to protect, and the debrief writes itself.
Run this when…
The situations it was built for. If none of these is the room you have, it is probably the wrong activity.
- The centrepiece of a team offsite
- A sales kick-off that needs a competitive edge
- A leadership session on trade-offs and budget discipline
- Any group that needs to negotiate under time pressure
Running it well
Only the host sees these. Participants never do.
- Set the budget so squads cannot be filled comfortably. If every team completes its XI with money spare, nobody had to make a trade-off and there is nothing to debrief.
- The interesting moment is the second-to-last lot, not the last — that is where teams discover what their early spending cost them.
- Read the bidding, not the scoreboard. The team that overpaid in the first ten minutes and then went quiet has the better story than the team that won.
- Call the breaks. A room bidding for forty minutes straight stops arguing with each other, and the arguing is the activity.
